    Bad Dreamweaver

I knew it! After a few years of using Notes/Domino I have resigning myself to it’s bugs and quirks. I have always thought that other tools/platforms must be prone to the same sort of thing, but never known for sure.

Notes developers that complain about Notes being ‘broken software’ spoke as though this sort of problem was confined only to Notes.

Today I was vindicated when Dreamweaver MX decided to stop saving my changes. I had suspected that it might have been doing this for some time and blamed myself, thinking that I had must have chosen not the save changes when I closed the file. Today it was happening right before my eyes, time and time again. Rebooting did no good. Hopefully applying the update will resolve the issue.

Not that I’m justifying the problems that exist in Notes – it’s just that I think people should not lose sight of the fact that it’s a problem with complex software in general – not just my old buddy….

    Ghost Stations

I read an article in last saturdays TV Guide in the Guardian about Urban Exploring. I found a site about the disused stations on the London Underground. I’ve always looked out for the ‘ghost stations’ as I ride on the underground but I’ve never seen one. This picture is wicked – I never thought that there would actually be disused trains down there.

    TV Go Home

TV GO HOME , ah sheesh this is funny. Such gems as ‘Santa in the Hood’, ‘It Shouldn’t Happen To A… Blameless Child’, and ‘Moo Moo, I’m a Cow”.

    DVD madness.

Holy shite. It has been nearly two weeks since I have even checked my email. It is weird how long it takes to adjust to working, even after a relatively short amount of time off work.

We bought a DVD player the other day. It’s great. Movies I have seen recently:

    House of 1000 Corpses (again)
    I love this film….

    High Society
I don’t think that I’ve ever watched a musical, but I quite liked it. The first thing that I noticed was the lip-sync on the opening number. Louis Armstrong’s band weren’t in time with the soundtrack. But fuck it, it was a cool song. Grace Kelly was stunning. Bing Crosby played the good guy. Frank Sinatra played the lovable common man. The film was shot as though it was more like a stage production. Long shots of dialogue and action. The highlight is the duet between Bing and Louis, and Grace by the swimming pool. Ah, they don’t make em like that anymore.

    About Schmidt
I kinda liked this film. It was depressing though. Jack was first class. I don’t really know what the point was though.

Yep, I got nothing interenting to say today.

    July Haiku

Due to the fact that I’m a wee bit rushed at the moment, todays blog is in the form of a short haiku (without the traditional reference to the season):

    Tash in hospital,

I start work as a permie,

    Work visa comes through.

    House of 1000 Corpses

Last night I saw Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses and it rocks! Having said that I don’t know how much appeal 1000 Corpses would have to people that aren’t fans of Mr Zombie.

I’ve never been a horror fan, but this film is original. Great soundtrack, well acted, and it looks great. 1000 Corpses was made on a very low budget, but you wouldn’t really know it. Just goes to show that talent goes a long way.

    Abigail’s Party

Last night I watched ‘Abigail’s Party’ . I could tell that it was by the same guy who did ‘Secrets and Lies’. The awkward moments (which constitute the majority of Abigail’s Party) had clearly been choreographed by the same person. I felt that I should have received a certificate at the end of the film for having actually sat through the whole thing. I can’t say that I liked the film, but it has invaded my thoughts constantly since last night. Brilliant acting, and surely the most harrowing film (that wasn’t a horror movie) I have ever seen.

I am using Firebird as my main browser, even more than Moz. It seems to me much the same as Phoenix but with an improved interface. It feels more like a finished product, unlike the last version of Phoenix I used which felt like a work in progress.

    Brandzilla

While having a break from rebuilding this site as well as learning PHP/MySQL by building a news application with it, I decided to have a look at the new Mozilla Firebird browser (as the branding document tells me it is called). I can’t write my thoughts on it yet, as it will be another hour at least until it downloads (I think I’ll be in a position to get broadband shortly). I was glad that I read the branding document, as the plethora of different Moz offerings had formed a turbulent cloud of confusingness for me.

As for php/MySQL? It is too early for me to make a comparison yet. When you know one way of doing something it is hard to start over again and enjoy it as much as a complete beginner. PHP seems like a lot more work to me, but I’ll reserve judgement in the meantime.

And the plumber came to fix the drains. Hopefully unspeakable things won’t happen in the shower drain when we flush the toilet now.

    Article 98

Yeah, it’s a great idea – I wonder if the UK govt will agree to a deal exempting me from prosecution….? Article 98 exempts:

“…US personnel from prosecution in the court, set up to try war crimes and acts of genocide.

The Bush administration objects to the court on the grounds it could launch politically motivated prosecutions of US civilian and military leaders. But other countries see it as a powerful tool for enforcing the rules of war.

Under the American Service Members Protection Act of 2002, many countries that recognise the International Criminal Court will not be eligible for US military assistance, unless the president issues a waiver on grounds of national security.”

I’m sure that the world has gone mad.
