Google does not accept my criticism…
Someone mentioned that Google Sites may be unreliable. So of course I googled it, and to my amusement this is what I got:
Happily, there was very little on Google (or Yahoo search) to suggest that Google Sites are unreliable.

The Wire
The Wire is a US TV show and I love it. I stayed up late last night to watch the final episode of the final season. Good stuff. I recommend it unless you don’t like violence, sex, depictions of drug use and fruity language. Nothing is glamorised, and it feels real in many ways. It would be easy to call this a ‘cop show’, but it is so much more than that. I found the first season very hard to get into but once it clicked I was hooked. Highly recommended.

Ode to WordPress
Upgrading WordPress to 2.8.5 was unbelievably fast. I use the WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin and after clicking the “automatic update” link the site was upgraded in the time it took to reload the page. It seems too good to be true.
WordPress is a great system from my point of view – I’ve always found it reasonably easy to theme, it has a beautiful user interface, and does just what I need it to do which is allow me to talk shite.

Talk – action = shit
This struck me as spot on: “Announcing your plans makes you less motivated to accomplish them.” Which made me think about the Brian Jonestown Massacre’s track “Talk – action = shit”.
Found via the superbly designed Contrast blog (they’re the team that make Quitter).

#! Crunchbang Linux
I’ve installed Crunchbang Linux on the old Thinkpad X24. It’s based on the Openbox window manager, and it is faaaaast, and so far very pleasant to use. The only issue I encountered was Openbox’s reliance on the super key (aka the windows key, which the X24 doesn’t have). This is easily solved though, thanks to this blog post at iceflatline. w00t.
Update: It turned out to be a little different, the script example in iceflatline needed to be tweaked slightly for my setup. The command
xmodmap $HOME/.Xmodmapis a useful one – it pointed me to an error that was preventing the new binding from working. A useful article on Xmodmap can be found here.
