The site was offline for a few months, the longest in 21 years. The cause was a single character config error in a file path that was the result of the site being moved by the host. It took a while to track down, although in hindsight it was obvious. This has provided an opportunity to reevaluate a few things. The old theme is so old I couldn’t justify continuing to use it, and there are changes I have made over the years that appear to be preventing the site running on PHP 8, so a little troubleshooting is required.
